Domestic environments have been characterized by specific materials and images, the way they are used tends to be related to ornament and decoration, hence their role is purely conceived as esthetic. Given this, domestic imagery is commonly perceived as less valuable, especially in visual arts, where certain depictions, ways of doing and materials are regarded as more valuable than others.

Using a laborious and time-consuming method is an effort to imbue a sense of value to a mass-produced material, while the depiction an ordinary image seeks to question why is it that some images and subjects are perceived as more “valuable”.
